Giant Cake at the Center of Beverly Hills Bash on Rodeo Drive

It seemed only appropriate that Beverly Hills, the city known for its well-to-do residents and expensive stores, would celebrate its 100th anniversary with an over-the-top cake that cost $200,000 and was a huge replica of all things Beverly Hills.

The cake was commissioned by Efrem Harkham, owner of the Luxe Hotel, and the former chief executive of Jonathan Martin and Hype clothing, a company he founded with his older brother, Uri.

For the Sunday celebration, part of Rodeo Drive was closed off in the afternoon for people to ride the city's portable Ferris wheel and take in the spectacle of a 15,000-slice cake that incorporated a replica of the Spanish Renaissance-style City Hall built in 1932.

The cake used 262 pounds of flour, 460 pounds of sugar, 900 eggs, 210 pounds of butter and was covered with a lot of chocolate. Pastry chef Donald Wressel had been working on the cake's design since last summer.

The incredible cake was displayed at the Luxe Hotel before slicing and eating time at 6 p.m.
