Rodeo Drive Gets Into the Year of the Horse

Every retail center around Los Angeles seems to be figuring out a way to celebrate Chinese New Year, which started Jan. 31.

For Beverly Hills, the festivities start at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a parade down Rodeo Drive between Wilshire Boulevard and Dayton Way. In addition, a stage will be constructed for live entertainment. Performances will include a ceremonial lion dance, fashion show highlighting ancient traditional Chinese dress, martial arts, folk dancers, acrobats and ribbon dancers.

This is the third year that the Beverly Hills merchants have celebrated Chinese New Year in such a grand fashion. Because this is the Year of the Horse, a sculpture called "Storm Castle," by Deborah Butterfield, will be on display at Two Rodeo throughout the month.

At 2,500 pounds, the unique sculpture is created by constructing a horse form from gathered wood. Each piece is then cast in bronze by the artist and reconstructed.

"Good Fortune" envelopes filled with special offers for local dining, shopping and attractions will be available all month.
