Ace Hotel's rager of a debut party.

Party On, Ace Hotel

Downtown Los Angeles’ Ace Hotel had a soft opening on Jan. 6, and it was just that; soft, really mild. It was pretty much neighborhood people dropping by and saying hello. Is that any way to welcome one of the most highly anticipated projects in Fashion District?

The answer is no. Ace Hotel must have agreed. A giant dance party was produced Jan. 11 at the theater by the new hotel. The crowd looked great and ready to have fun. In true Ace form, the theater building was hip…and a little weird. There was some religious signage left over from the days when televangelist Dr. Gene Scott performed in the theatre. Also yet to be explained, what was that big purple vortex doing on theater ceiling!? That quasi yeti-man sculpture by the lobby?! This reporter has questions…

Words of wisdom from the time when the Ace theatre building was the home of Dr. Gene Scott's televangelist show.
