LA FASHION DISTRICT
Construction on City Market Project Announced
Construction for the first section of the sprawling City Market of Los Angeles project at the eastern edge of the Los Angeles Fashion District was announced on June 2.
Called City Market South, the project will renovate existing buildings on San Pedro and San Julian between 11th and 12th streets, and the development will be open by the summer of 2015, according to a statement from project developers and Los Angeles City Councilman José Huizar.
City Market South will feature 30,000 square feet of creative office space. The project also will offer artisanal restaurants and some retail.
The City Market South project will be led by developers Kevin Napoli and Mark Levy of LENA Group Inc.
“City Market South is a place conceptualized and designed for the way people seek to live and work in the city,” Napoli said in a prepared statement.
The full City Market project will fill 1.9 million square feet and will include a residential tower, hotel, an educational campus, along with more retail and restaurants. It might take two decades to build out the entire project, developers said.
“This project will breathe new life into this area of the Fashion District,” Huizar said
