DENIM DESIGN

Deep Pockets Required

And bigger than many pockets...

The supersize of the iPhone 6 (and iPhone 6 Plus, not to mention the Galaxy Note) has created a fashion problem. The bigger phones no longer fit in the front pocket of a pair of jeans. Mashable contacted a few denim makers to see if they’re designing bigger pockets. My favorite, brand-agnostic response is from Jonathan Cheung, head of global design for Levi Strauss & Co. He told the website “"Without being iPhone 6-specific, our mantra, like [Steve Jobs'], will always be to design products that make people’s lives a little better.”

But Mashable went one step further with this hilarious Vine of people trying to fit the new iPhone into a front pocket. For men’s jeans, it’s not much of a problem. But clearly, the wee pockets on most women’s jeans just won’t cut it.

So perhaps if the big phone thing is here to stay, perhaps we’ll see a return of the cargo pocket. Or maybe the big phone/small pocket problem will help drive sales of smart watches.
