From The Underground - Skingraft’s Flagship Party

Underground celebs and designers made their way to the Oct. 18 opening of the Skingraft designer label’s new flagship at 758 S. Spring St in downtown Los Angeles.

For many it was the underground store party to be seen, but for Jonny Cota, founder of Skingraft, the new shop represented a new statement for the leather and avant garde - fashion label. “This is the brand grown-up,” Cota said of the new flagship for the label, which has frequently produced runway shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, and back-in-the day when MBFW was in L.A

The flagship features the mounted Kudu antelope head that has been in all of Skingraft’s retail spaces, including the last one at 125 W. 4th St., which is a few blocks away from the new flagship. But the larger space offered more room for the label to stretch its proverbial legs and experiment.

“We couldn’t do this on the Westside,” Cota said. “Downtown gives young designers a chance to grow and evolve. It gives us a chance to create culture.”

Shaun Ross, an albino model and Lana Del Rey fave, dropped by the party as well as designer Ashton Hirota, Michael Paradise of the Stronghold label and Jefferson Tangradi of The Well store and designer label. During the party, Cota told people to wait until 2015, when Skingraft is scheduled to unveil a side project at the flagship.
