Guess Looks to Latin America for Growth

Guess is holding a grand opening today for its first store in Paraguay.

The Los Angeles-based retailer has staked out a 2,700-square-foot space in the shopping center called Paseo La GalerĂa, in the country's capital of Asuncion.

The outpost's opening marks a strategy to expand in the Latin American region through a long-time distribution partnership that started in 1994 with Starship Commercial S.A.

The move to open more stores in Latin America comes a year after Victor Herrero, a Spaniard who at one time worked for the parent company of Zara, took the helm as Guess's new chief executive officer. With this new store, Guess has 47 retail outposts in Latin America.

The new store in Asuncion incorporates a new retail look for Guess. It has a clean, white setting with bright high-tech lights and contrasting materials that create a contemporary and modern feel. The new layout was launched this year and lays out looks by theme to facilitate the customer's shopping experience; while the accessories collections are displayed in the center stage area of the store.
