You can take the designer out of Los Angeles, but you can’t take the L.A. out of the designer.

That sums up pioneering retailer Ron Herman’s view on Jeff Rudes. Rudes made a reputation for building Los Angeles-founded denim label J Brand. After selling it for $300 million to Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retailing, he didn’t ride off into the sunset. He introduced high end men’s brand Jeffrey Rüdes.

The fabrics are American. It is manufactured in Italy. The brand is headquartered in Los Angeles, but first retail address for Jeffrey Rüdes is in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. The flagship opened last year. Herman thought the brand needed a larger presence around Los Angeles. On Dec. 10, he and Flaunt Magazine introduced a Jeffrey Rüdes shop-in-a-shop at Ron Herman’s boutique at 8100 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles. On the West Coast, it will be sold exclusively at Ron Herman.

“Even though he opened a store in New York, he has a Los Angeles sensibility,” Herman said. Maybe the L.A. vibe can be found in the brand's blazer that has the comfortable feel of sweater, or perhaps in a sense of ease and joie de vivre. Other Jeffrey Rüdes looks include slim jeans, a long point collar dress shirts and tuxedo jackets.
