Where's the New Torrid Model From?

The new plus-size model for Torrid is a size 16 and didn't start out to be a model.

But when the large-size retailer for young woman put out a call for someone who fit into the company's size 12 to 28 mold, thousands of women sent in their photos. Out of all of those, Lyanna Lynette fit the bill. The trained cosmetologist left her job at a local hair salon to become the newest face of Torrid.

The 26-year-old is from Harlingen, Texas, raised by a single mom and her grandparents. She grew up fishing, boating, hiking and hunting. Her grandfather, originally from Louisiana, was a shrimp boat captain.

“I’ve been a loyal Torrid customer for years, but I never imagined being the next face of the brand. I want to represent all those women who think ‘I can’t.’ Because I’m just like them—I’m a normal girl with normal problems," she said.

Lynette is doing a tour of selected Torrid stores and will be at the Glendale Galleria from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 4 and at the Del Amo Fashion Center from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 5 to meet fans and show off the latest Torrid fashions.

Torrid is a division of Hot Topic, a teen retailer in the City of Industry, Calif., that caters to music fans.
