Otis Fashion Design School Moving to Westchester

Moving day is almost here for the fashion design department of the Otis College of Art and Design, which has been in the California Market Center for some 20 years.

Desks have been emptied, boxes packed and everything is getting readied for moving day on July 18. Empty will be 24 classrooms, one library and one fitting studio that filled 38,000 square feet.

The fashion design department is joining the rest of the Otis students on the college's main campus in Westchester, near Los Angeles International Airport, after failing to negotiate a new lease that included a smaller space.

The college has built a new four-story building that will welcome the fashion design students, who can live in a dorm on campus.

The new semester begins on Aug. 29. Rosemary Brantley, who started the fashion design department and who is now stepping down from her full-time position as the department's chair, will be at the new campus a few days a week. She is hoping the fashion design students hold a fashion show at the beginning of the semester to announce their arrival.

Taking over as acting chair is Jill Higashi Zeleznik.
