Goodbye Skinny Jeans

Last month no less a fashion authority than GQ dropped the bomb on skinny jeans. They’re over, kaput, finito. “This fall, the jeans to cop are looser, bigger, and much easier to put on,” wrote GQ’s Liza Corsillo.

That article felt like receiving an overdue notice that you’d have to say goodbye to the whole skinny jean aesthetic! Think about it. It’s like getting rid of your records from rockers who lived in skinny jeans. Farewell Iggy Pop. Buh-bye Ramones. Say hello to the relaxed look of Hootie & the Blowfish. Does anyone remember them? Or their style?

OK, I am a fan of the skinny look, and I needed a second opinion. Here it is from a couple of Los Angeles’ denim wizards.

Said Caleb Lin, buying director of American Rag Cie, “Relaxed fit” and “anti-fit” is the strong trend,” he said. “In men’s apparel specifically.”

Alfredo Izaguirre of LASC said skinny is not completely over. “Most of our guys are wearing slim jeans. The reason people like them is that they have a tailored look, you can make them look formal,” he said.

I’ll take it. It’s not exactly the Iggy look, but it may not be the end for one of my fave styles.
