The world got a first look at the new SpaceX spacesuit thanks to Elon Musk’s Instagram account. (Hat tip to Fashionista). The super-sleek suits are currently being tested to withstand “double vacuum pressure.”

Sleek is the operative word here. Most spacesuits are pretty voluminous. From the classic 60s-era, Apollo mission suits to NASA’s more-recent Z-2 design challenge.

MIT created a streamlined “Gravity Loading Countermeasure Skinsuit,” which is supposed to help astronauts stave off bone loss during the prolonged exposure to zero-g. But they’re really inside spacesuits, so I suppose it's not a fair comparison.
