The scene: Project Ethos hosted its 17th event, since its inception in 2005, at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theater. The event featured up-and-coming clothing and accessories designers, musicians and artists and was hosted by “Project Runway” alum Nick Verreos. Between stage acts the mood was mellow on the roof, where patrons mulled over designer goods and artwork for sale. This season, Project Ethos’ charitable partner is Love Cures Cancer, an organization benefiting children with cancer.
Boy-band musical act Miguel prepped the crowd with soulful pop ballads before the runway show, where 10 designers debuted their Fall 2010 collections.
The night was heavy on womenswear, starting with Alma Lee Clothing, which kicked off the show with an edgy yet feminine line punctuated with asymmetrical design details. Color and sparkle were seen in the bikini line Katorey Swim; B.Vika’s collection of bedazzled hoodies, bikinis and denim with Bollywood-esque styling; Emmelina Manos’ dresses, which included animal prints, sequins and jellyfish-like tendrils; and Roshena Chadha Designs’ evening gowns in a myriad of soft, vibrant and dramatic colors. On the casual side, hardKAUR, Nicholas Tarr and ARKA showed T-shirts with graphic prints, and JaJo Couture did a twist on the classics through the use interesting patterns and texture.
