Divine Design toasted its 20th anniversary of Hollywood star power supporting the Project Angel Food charity. The fund-raising gala, held Dec. 7 at the Beverly Hilton, kicked off the six-day annual shopping event. Top brands donate clothing, beauty products and home goods that are sold at 50 percent to 90 percent off retail price with all proceeds to benefit Project Angel Food. Last year, Project Angel Food cooked and delivered more than 735,000 meals to people with HIV, AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Darren Star (producer of “Sex and the City”) and Marc Friedland co-chaired the event’s award presentations. Honorees included costume designer Patricia Field of “Sex and the City” and “The Devil Wears Prada”; Thomas Keller, chef and restaurateur known for founding The French Laundry; and Academy Award–nominated actress Viola Davis. Petite songbird Kristin Chenoweth (known for originating the role of Glinda the Good Witch in “Wicked” on Broadway) performed.

Field shared her admiration for Project Angel Food and its gracious volunteers and donors. “I am the character police,” Field said. “When you see people of good character, it’s like seeing beauty. … Just if one person helps another person in this world, it would be a much more wonderful world than it is.” The evening’s host, J Alexander from “America’s Next Top Model,” got personal about the cause and named close friends who passed away from AIDS, including his younger sister.

After the live auction, which raised more than $40,000, guests headed to the former Robinsons May building across the street to shop from brands such as Monique Lhuillier, Brooks Brothers, L.A. Eyeworks, David Meister, Black Halo, Single, Michael Antonio, Elizabeth and James, Trina Turk, Kiehl’s and Barclay Butera home.
