The scene: The crowd was wall-to-wall at West Hollywood nightclub Eleven recently for a fashionable fund-raiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Toys for Tots.

The runway featured a mélange of styles from designers Richard Bowman and Xavier Othon, Max Nugus Haute Couture, and Koffa Couture, as well as Tarla Couture shoes and jewelry provided by the Joseph Walker boutique in Los Angeles.

Bowman and Othon kicked off the fashion show with pieces from their 2009 XR Collection. For men, the looks ranged from tailored suits to more-casual weekend wear. Women’s styles ranged from ultra-feminine red-carpet gowns to a couple of vixen numbers in leather or with up-to-there slits.

Nugus showed an eclectic collection that ranged from jeans and tees with religious iconography to ladylike separates and dramatic gowns. The presentation concluded with plus-size looks from Koffa Couture.

The event drew an assortment of famous names—if not faces. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton was there along with an assortment of reality-show stars and soon-to-be stars.

Bowman and Othon dressed Kynt Cothron and Vyxsin Fiala, the Goth couple who appeared in the CBS reality show “Amazing Race” last season. A dramatic white mermaid dress designed by Bowman and Othon was worn by transgender artist Calpurnia Addams, who appeared in the 2005 film “Transamerica” and is the star of Logo’s “Transamerican Love Story,” a dating reality show. Also in attendance was Kayley Gable, granddaughter of Clark and one of the stars of MTV’s reality show “Paris Hilton’s My New BFF.” And several models from the Oxygen network’s “Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency” walked in the show, including Paul Vandervort and Maurice Townsell.

Los Angeles–based Bowman co-designs the XR Collection from his 14-year-old eponymous boutique on Los Angeles’ Beverly Boulevard. Although the coming year will certainly be challenging, the designer said he was focused on specific customer niche markets, including “last-minute orders, special orders and hard-to-ft people who can’t go to a department store and just buy it.”

“The people we do well with really want something different,” he said. “In 2009, we’re going to try and survive in this economy and be bigger and better and come out on top.” —Alison A. Nieder
