The scene: Los Angeles Fashion Week officially came to a close on March 18, when Los Angeles magazine kicked off its inaugural Tastemakers Class of 2008 exhibition at Hollywood & Highland.
The event was based on the magazine’s monthly “Tastemaker” column, launched by Los Angeles’ Style Director Laurie Pike in 2006. For the show, Pike selected 15 Los Angeles–based designers, artists and entrepreneurs who have been featured in the column, whose work was featured in installation in the Tastemaker Gallery.
The first class of Tastemakers includes Society for Rational Dress designer Corinne Grassini; Undefeated owner and sneaker designer James Bond; designer and Resurrection vintage boutique owner Katy Rodriguez; jewelry designer Melissa McClure, owner of Jewelry Alchemy; White Trash Charms jewelry designer and retailer Brooke Dulien; Joel K, designer of menswear line K.Z.O.; Rosemary Brantley, founding fashion chair of Otis College of Art + Design; Betsee Isenberg, owner of the 10 Eleven showroom; Reiko Kondo, owner of Eenie Meenie Records; Mark Allen, owner of the Machine Project gallery; stationery designer Marc Friedland, owner of Creative Intelligence; furniture importers John Brady and Willard Ford, owners of FORDBRADY; home-accessories designer Douglas Little, owner of D.L. & Co.; and architect and fashion designer Elena Manferdini, owner of Atelier Manferdini, who was named a Tastemaker in two categories.
The installations were created by the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and the show also features a specially created mural by street artist Chase.
The party kicked off the exhibition, which is open to the public and will run through March 30.
Pike said the magazine plans to hold the Tastemaker exhibition annually. For more information, visit www.lamagtastemakers.com. —A.A.N.
