Rochester Big & Tall Signs John Madden As Spokesperson
San Francisco-based Rochester Big & Tall Clothing has entered into a two-year agreement with Emmy award-winning TV sports commentator John Madden to have him serve as the spokesperson for the large-sized men’s clothier. Madden is described as one of the company’s best customers.
“I’ve been shopping at Rochester for over 30 years,” said Madden. “Whatever I need, they have always come through.”
Bob Sockolov, president of the 95-year-old company, said that establishing the relationship with the former head coach of the Oakland Raiders was a “real coup.”
“John has the unique ability to relate to the ’Average Joe’ as well as top executives,” said Sockolov.
Madden will be featured in a national radio campaign as well as the Rochester catalog and direct mail campaign.
Other celebrities who have represented the company include the NBA’s Hakeem Olajuwon and actor Michael Clarke Duncan. Rochester has relationships with the player’s associations of the NFL and the NBA.
Rochester customers are usually at least 6 feet tall and/or weigh at least 200 pounds. Suits and sport coats range from 42 extra long to 60 extra long and 48 to 60 regular, long and portly. Sportswear sizes include Large Tall to 4x Tall and 1x Big to 6x Big.
The Rochester retail stores carry the company’s own brand as well as larger styles from DKNY, Burberry, Dockers, Ermenegildo Zegna, Fila, Kenneth Cole, Jhane Barnes, Nautica, Versace Classic and Ralph Lauren. In addition, Rochester offers custom-made garments for customers who are unable to fit the ready-to-wear clothing. —Darryl James
