Joe Boxer Corp., the San Francisco-based underwear label, has been ordered to pay East Brunswick, NJ-based Van Mar Inc., its former licensee, nearly $3.16 million for starting a new underwear line in the late 1990s that allegedly interfered with Van Mar’s licensing rights; Boxer, which claims it only started the new line in preparation for the termination of the Van Mar license, is scheduled to appear in San Francisco Superior Court on Jan. 16 as part of a proceeding to determine its financial ability to pay the judgment, which was awarded in an October 2000 arbitration and later confirmed by a state court...Atlanta-based United Parcel Service, known as a smaller-item shipper, is acquiring San Francisco-based logistics firm Fritz Companies Inc. in a $450 million stock deal intended to better position the shipping company for taking on large freight and for providing supply-chain solutions to retail and other industries; Fritz owns and operates 400 facilities in more than 120 countries...Vans, the footwear company that became emblematic of the Southern California skateboarder lifestyle, has opened its newest store in the Irvine Spectrum Center in Orange County; Vans operates approximately 126 stores nationwide.
