Paul Frank Adds More Stores, Licenses Sunwear

Newport Beach, Calif.-based accessories and junior apparel manufacturer Paul Frank Industries has opened its second retail store in the Haight district of San Francisco. A store opening party is planned for March 3, according to Ryan Heuser, president and co-founder of the company.Two more stores are planned for Los Angeles and London later this year, Heuser said, adding that locations for the stores have not yet been finalized. The company opened its first prototype store last year at the company’s Newport Beach headquarters.

In other Paul Frank news, the company has signed a licensing agreement with Newport Beach-based Baum Vision to create a line of Paul Frank sunwear for Spring 2002. Shane Baum, founder of Baum Vision, and Paul Frank Industries have formed PF Eye, a limited liability company (LLC) to produce the line. The men’s and women’s sunwear will feature Paul Frank’s familiar icons such as Julius the monkey. The collection will be distributed in specialty stores and optical boutiques, with plans to begin international distribution in fall 2002. —Alison A. Nieder
