Galleria Gets a Facelift, New Name

Friday, December 13, 2002

The Galleria at South Bay in Redondo Beach, Calif., will begin a $7 million renovation in early 2003, including officially changing the name of the mall to South Bay Galleria. Bigger signage, a Mediterranean-style arched entry and tile flooring are elements of the design renovations. Plans also call for two new elevators and new light fixtures, paint and directional signs. The refurbishment is expected to finish by the holiday season of 2003. Owned by Cleveland-based Forest City Enterprises, the mall’s anchors include Nordstrom, Robinsons-May and Mervyn’s. Forest City purchased a 50 percent stake in the 955,000-square-foot center for $116 million in October 2001. The mall is currently 96 percent leased and generates sales of $400 per square foot. —Nola Sarkisian-Miller
