Ross Stores to Relocate HQ, Warehouse

Friday, May 9, 2003

Newark, Calif.–based Ross Stores Inc. will be moving its corporate headquarters a few miles northeast to Pleasanton, Calif., in Alameda County. The company has signed an 11-year lease for 150,000 square feet at the CarrAmerica Corporate Center. Ross will also move its distribution operations from Newark to a 1.3 million-square-foot space in Perris, Calif., in Southern California’s Inland Empire.

The off-price retailer, which has 524 units in 24 states, has operated out of 120,000 square feet of office space and 400,000 square feet of warehouse space at its companyowned facilities in Newark. Ross officials said the moves will consolidate the company’s office space, which currently spreads out over four buildings, and will update its distribution.

The company is in the process of building its Perris distribution plant, which will handle shipping to all Ross Stores in the Southwest. Company spokespeople said they expect the project to be completed by the end of the third quarter. Ross plans to move to the Pleasanton address in the summer of 2004. Ross Stores will sublease the space from current leaseholders Commerce One and PeopleSoft for approximately one year and then will assume a 10-year lease with CarrAmerica. Company officials said they have not yet decided what to do with the Newark property once it is vacated. —Robert McAllister
