Sato, Avery Release New Printers, Services
Charlotte, N.C.–based Sato Corp. has launched a new line of thermal and transfer tag and label printers for the apparel industry. The new Xle series is designed for apparel labels, retail tags and hangtags. The printers have print, cut and stack functions and come equipped with movable sensors to adapt to different media.
Other features include an “intelligent” print head that regulates temperatures. The Windows-compatible systems use a 32-bit RISC processor and support a wide range of linear and 2-D symbologies. Additional features include a print speed of 8 inches per second at 203 dpi, 2 MB of standard memory and a standard Serial RS232C interface.
Philadelphia-based Avery Dennison Printer Systems said it now supports T.L. Ashford’s Barcode400—a popular software program for AS/400, iSeries and eserver i5 platforms—through the 6400 series radio frequency identification bench-top printers.Barcode400 transmits the information required to encode and print “smart labels” to the 6400 series RFID printers. The labels are used to comply with the initiatives set by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and others that require labels to be embedded with RFID chips so they can be tracked by wireless scanners on the shipping dock. —Robert McAllister
