LiAM: Beautiful People's Answer to Cashmere

Veteran Los Angeles contemporary knits brand Beautiful People has expanded to include cashmere under its new line, LiAM. The collection consists of 12 unique bodies that mirror the oversized silhouettes and casual sophistication of its parent company.

Beautiful People attributes its success to consumers’ seemingly insatiable appetite for T-shirts. The company creates comfortable and versatile pieces that are both edgy and elegant. “We don’t fit into any particular age bracket,” designer Gosha Pinno said. “It’s appropriate for anyone from 15 to 60—anyone who’s looking for an edgy look. We don’t market particularly to 20-somethings... Everyone just keeps coming.”

The company is known for garments constructed in an ultra-lightweight jersey knit. Buyers had been asking the company to add sweaters to the line. But Pinno didn’t feel heavier knits would be appropriate for the Beautiful People collection; instead, the company created LiAM, which expands on the T-shirt trend by incorporating the comfort and versatility of the tee into luxurious cashmere.

LiAM features popular oversized silhouettes that are appropriate for both daywear and eveningwear. Looks include a full-length sweater trench, slouchy tanks and a boxy oversized cardigan. All styles are available in black, charcoal and ash and are produced locally. The collection was presented to buyers for the first time in March and has already been picked up by Ron Herman, Madison and Theodore, as well as numerous international retailers. Wholesale prices of the line range from $72 to $160.
