Influential Sirens & Sailors Boutique Shutters, Gentlemen's Breakfast Debuts

Sirens Sailors closes Feb. 21.

For the past 10 years, the Sirens Sailors boutique was one of the influential boutiques on Los Angeles’ Eastside. From its location in a lavender colored cottage in Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood, Sirens made a splash by championing Los Angeles avant-garde designers such as Grey Ant, Jared Gold, Brian Lichtenberg and Smoke Mirrors. Yet Feb. 21 will be its last day as a physical store.

Owner Jennifer Phillips said a still-weak economy and a rash of burglaries in EchoPark convinced her to transfer her entire operation to her already-existing e-commerce store at www.sirensandsailors.ecrater.com. Until the physical store, located at 1104 Mohawk St., closes on Sunday, Sirens will be holding a major store-clearance sale.

As Sirens prepares to close, another store opened across the street. On Feb. 1, vintage eyewear and accessories boutique Gentlemen’s Breakfast opened at 1101 Mohawk St. Owner and optician Van de la Plante specializes in shades from the 1950s to the 1980s as well as vintage cufflinks, neckties and timepieces.
