CMC to Host a Fashion Retrospective

The California Market Center will host “110 Years of Fashion/110 East Ninth Street: A Fashion Retrospective.”

The exhibit—which will include fashion and art installations from brands such as BCBG Max Azria, Sue Wong, Ben Sherman, Cynthia Steffe and Voom by Joy Han—will kick off with an opening-night cocktail reception on March 19. Presented in partnership with Los Angeles Confidential magazine and WGSN, the retrospective will commemorate 110 years of fashion history and its influence on the Fall 2010 season—which will be in the spotlight during the Los Angeles Fashion Market March 19–23.

The CMC, which in the past has showcased the work of designers on catwalks, said the shift toward installations is part of an effort to bring freshness to the market. “The goal is to make a more interactive and engaging presentation,” said Joanne Lee, senior vice president of the CMC, in a statement.

Retailers and fashion-industry figures are invited to view the installation, and special VIP guests will be treated to an intimate exhibit of fashion photographer Mark Shaw’s vintage prints.

As part of the retrospective, California Apparel News Executive Editor Alison A. Nieder will moderate a panel discussion on March 19 that includes panelists Sue Wong and Doris Raymond of The Way We Wore.
