Weisman to Open L.A. Office of Ritholz Levy

Los Angeles attorney Greg Weisman will lead the new West Coast office of New York law firm Ritholz Levy Sanders Chidekel & Fields LLP.

Ritholz Levy—which specializes in music, fashion and media, as well as an emerging presence in action sports—“had long envisioned a Los Angeles counterpart to its well-respected boutique practice,” according to a company release.

Weisman is currently with Los Angeles–based Silver & Freedman, which recently announced plans to disband. He will serve as managing partner for Ritholz Levy’s new office and will serve, with New York–based Peter Fields, as co-chairman of the firm’s Apparel Industry Practice Group.

“In Greg Weisman we couldn’t have found a more perfect partner to take what we have been trying to build nationally and run with it in L.A.,” said Ritholz Levy Co-Managing Partner Jeff Sanders. “His amazing client base is the perfect complement to ours, and the synergies are beyond exciting.”

Weisman described his new position as “a dream come true.”

“As sad as it was to see Silver & Freedman decide to close its doors, I could not be happier about this opportunity,” he said. “I have been working with, both as co-counsel and sometimes opposing counsel, the guys in New York, and when this opportunity arose, I couldn’t pass it up.They represent some of the most significant clients in the music, film, media, fashion and technology industries. The sky is the limit on how we can work together.”

Also joining the Los Angeles office is entertainment and intellectual-property litigator David Boren. He will co-chair Ritholz Levy’s dispute resolution and litigation practice. Weisman and Boren were classmates at the University of California, Berkeley.

“I always wanted to open my own firm but never wanted to put my clients in a position where I couldn’t offer them the depth of other practice areas,” Weisman said. “Now I get the best of both worlds, and the kicker is that I get to build a practice in L.A. with one of my best friends from college whom I have always been trying to find a way to work with.”

The West Coast office of Ritholz Levy Sanders Chidekel & Fields will open after the closure of Silver & Freedman at the end of March. Weisman and Boren are looking into office locations on Los Angeles’ Westside.—Alison A. Nieder
