Shoe Gazing at the WSA
LAS VEGAS—More than 6,000 brands and 1,600 exhibitors brought handbags, accessories, designer footwear, sneakers, juniors and contemporary styles, and men's shoes to the Feb. 1-4 run of the World Shoe Association's WSA Show in Las Vegas. More than 30,000 buyers from all over the world shopped among the exhibitors at the WSA show, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, and The Collections at the WSA, the luxury and designer footwear show within a show, held at The Venetian. Fall/Winter 2007 styles ranged from androgynous oxford styles to ladylike vintage-inspired shoes spiked with a dose of sex appeal. Gray is the color of the season. From stormy shades to airy hues of ash on sandals and boots, the color was everywhere. Edie Sedgwick would be proud, thanks to a plethora of mod boots, sleek flats and '60s black-and-white color combinations. Spring's spots and stripes were replaced with art deco color blocking for Fall. Rich burgundies, forest greens and gilded metallics recalled "Great Gatsby"-style decadence. The boot, a cold-weather staple, gets pared down next season to booties in all shapes and sizes, from formal satin incarnations to comfy gum-soled versions.
