With several new lines on her racks and several old favorites, showroom owner Ginny Wong says she has a winning formula for buyers shopping for unique and up-and-coming lines. “We have some really special lines, all with a sense of effortless chic. But the best part is our lines aren’t oversaturated. Buyers can come here to find great lines that aren’t already in every single store,” Wong said.
Wong fills her eponymous showroom’s 1,200 square feet with seven contemporary lines. A big draw for buyers is Tart, a knit jersey tops and dress line packed with easybreezy shapes and sexy styles. A midnightblue, high-waist pencil skirt with gold buttons is a standout, as is a collection of saturated plum dresses. Wholesale prices for Tart hover around $49 to $98.
Also gaining traction is MK2K, a new contemporary line of tops and bottoms in somber tones from Los Angeles designer Michelle Kim. “It’s understated, chic and a little bit urban,” Wong said. Silhouettes include oversize shirtdresses, long cardigans and sweet jumpers, and dusty pink is as colorful as it gets. The line, which sells at Los Angeles boutiques Hillary Rush, Madison, Diavolina and Diane Merrick, has had great sell-through, Wong said.
For buyers in search of casual luxe, Wong has Nation, voted by Vogue as one of the best-fitting T-shirts; Beautiful People for easy shapes in super fine cotton; and Wednesday, a vintage-inspired knit tops line with unique fabrications.
Buyers looking for a more upscale look and some serious design will love Amanda Uprichard and April,May,Wong said. Amanda Uprichard offers dresses and tunics in a rainbow of silk satins that are flirty and sophisticated. A peach sheath with a nipped-in waist and slim skirt screams “young sophisticate.” Parisian line April,May, which debuted in the United States last year at Designers and Agents, is all tailored shapes and yummy fabrics. Cropped jackets, trousers, silk tops, boucleacute; coats and sequined dresses feature mod- and vintage-inspired details. Wholesale prices for the line start at $69 and top out at $200. “Everyone is getting more dressy, a little more covered up—even here in L.A. April, May is perfect for that,” Wong said.
