JNCO Relaunches Young Contemporary Line, Renamed C.85

Los Angeles-based Revah Industries, makers of JNCO young men’s and junior apparel, has relaunched its young contemporary line under the C.85 label. Charlie Amzallag, who previously was with Jane Doe, the young contemporary division of Tarrant Apparel Group, designs the collection.

C.85 debuted at the Los Angeles market with a small collection that included novelty-washed, printed denim and corduroy bottoms, jackets and tops. The line also includes novelty T-shirts with Americana, Western and military motifs. Colors include a red, white and blue flag-printed denim and olive, khaki, chocolate and black distressed corduroy. Several T-shirts, which are embellished with rhinestones and embroidery, have fabric or faux-fur sleeves.

JNCO launched a contemporary line last year under the JNCO label, but shelved it after one season. Amzallag was hired to revamp all the company’s lines, including young men’s, boys’, girls’ and juniors, but the young contemporary line will be the most forward, Amzallag said.

“They want me to stay on the edge of fashion with C.85,” he said.

The company’s girls’ line will also carry the C.85 label, which stands for Class of 85—a year of reference to the year JNCO opened. The junior line will continue with the JNCO label.

“JNCO is well known in streetwear and urban, it’s already at J.C. Penney and Marshalls,” Amzallag said. “We can come to the better contemporary with the JNCO label. It’s $45 for a T-shirt—impossible! We decided to create a new label and keep JNCO for the junior label because that’s a mass market business.”

The new JNCO team also includes Henry Aberge and Cynthia Mata in sales.

The small initial collection was well received at market, according to Mata, a West Coast sales representative for the line. Mata said several retailers placed test orders for C.85.

“Our deliveries are beginning of August, so we’ll get a good read by MAGIC,” Mata said.
