Save A Life Plans Free Mammograms

The Los Angeles-based philanthropy Save A Life will once again offer mammograms to women in the apparel industry May 8–10 at the California Mart. The organization is working with the Women’s Breast Center, Avon and the Center for Healthy Aging in Santa Monica, Calif. The mammograms are free for women who qualify based on age, income, medical and insurance history and other factors.

Save A Life is a 34-year-old organization that provides support for members of the Los Angeles apparel and textile industry. The organization, whose motto is “We Take Care of Our Own,” raises funds at its yearly benefit gala, which is scheduled this year at the Friars Club in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The organization offered free mammograms last year, and based on the response added a third day this year, according to Patty Craven, president of Save A Life. Craven said this year, women who do not qualify for free mammograms, but find it convenient to come to the Cal Mart, can have the procedure for a $50 fee.
