New York-based Beenz.com has launched RewardzCodes, a marketing ploy that allows companies in the apparel industry to reward consumers via codes on their packaging that consumers then can take online to earn “beenz,” which can be spent on products and/or services of the manufacturer or in online stores that are part of the beenz network.

The idea behind Beenz (both the company and the marketing tool) is to create a universal, incentive-based currency for online merchants; that “currency” is intended to both influence and reward online consumer behavior.

To earn beenz, the apparel purchaser enters the code at a specified Web site, along with personal information requested by the manufacturer.

The information collected can be used by the product manufacturer for various purposes; for example, either accumulating a database or specific information on particular long-term customers, and the RewardzCodes themselves even can be tracked back to the exact store in which they were placed. They also can be used in direct mail to increase response rates or on printed media to track performance.
