Carrollton, Texas-based Gadzooks is expecting to report a loss of six to 10 cents per share in the second quarter of its fiscal year ending Aug. 4; analysts had been expecting the company to earn as much as 12 cents per share; sales are expected to be between $73 million and $75 million and increase due to the addition of new stores...Birmingham, Ala.-based Saks Inc. announced this week that it purchased two former Montgomery Ward stores, which will be converted into department stores, and that it will close a 50,000-square-foot Saks Fifth Avenue in the Desert Fashion Plaza in Palm Springs, Calif....Rouse Co., the nation’s third-largest mall owner, is looking to Las Vegas for shopping expansion, targeting the existing Fashion Show Mall; when completed next year, the revamped mall will span nearly 2 million square feet, with eight anchor stores, including Neiman Marcus, Robinson’s May, Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom.
