Unemployment claims are expected to exceed initial expectations for July, according to the Department of Labor, which found that for the week ending June 30, continuing unemployment claims increased 36,000 to 3.046 million; the advance figure for seasonally adjusted new claims rose 42,000 to 445,000 in the first week of July.
