Cal Mart Prepares for Job Fair

The California Mart will help the needy get back into the work force through its first People Helping People Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, July 26 in the Mart’s Fashion Theatre, 110 E. Ninth Street.

The Mart is teaming with the Dress for Success organization, which for the past five years has run an assistance program to aid the homeless, battered women and other needy people. Two seminars will take place at 9:30 a.m. on June 12 and 4 p.m. on June 26 to orientate area businesses to the job fair, explaining tax benefits and other aspects. Janet Lavender of Dress for Success and Everett Richie of the Chicana Action Service and General Relief Opportunities for Work, will answer questions.

“Our intent is to unify the Los Angeles Fashion Industry and improve our city by helping people off the streets and back into the job market,” said the Cal Mart’s Karen Mamont, who conceived of the event with Lavender.
