Market Week Runway: David Park

Models wearing designer David Park’s newly launched contemporary line navigated a narrow ocean-side runway at the designer’s fashion show held at a private residence in Malibu on June 1. The show included a few familiar and striking pieces from the line’s Fall I delivery, including a group in a bold red and cream and black and cream geometric print, as well as new Fall II items such as leather tops, skirts and dresses with curved and ruffled seams and body-skimming skirts and low-rise trousers in menswear surfing fabrics. Each ensemble was topped with a fedora.

The collection marks the designer’s initial foray into a true contemporary line. The Sky David Park line—which Park describes as young contemporary—is geared to a slightly younger customer and is sold at a lower price point than the new collection.

The David Park collection is less trend-driven, Park explained. “It’s always been my dream to be able to work with better fabrics and not have the limitations of what the mass market is trying to dictate to me and to be able to do more quality work and more intricate work,” he said.

Park said he plans to continue holding solo fashion shows during the major Fall and Spring markets. —Alison A. Nieder
