Glendale's Zone Retools Store Mix

The Zone, a cluster of teenage-oriented shops in the Glendale Galleria, is changing its store line-up less than a year after making its splashy debut in the Glendale Galleria.

The Scream Shoe Shop and Revolve will open in August. They will replace retailers No Fear and Premium, which didn’t provide the right fit, according to mall marketing director Annette Bethers.

“We worked with them and couldn’t get them to perform in the environment,” Bethers said.

The Zone marks the fourth store for Huntington Park, Calif.-based Scream, said founder and president Ike Solano. The 1,800-square-foot venue will cater to the punk, rock and “lollipop” music cultures, selling shoes by Dr. Martens, Harley-Davidson, Skechers, Guess, Puma, Vans and Lugz, along with T-shirts, stickers and spiky belts.

“We think the Zone has great potential and we wanted to be in the premier mall in Los Angeles,” said Solano, who projects the store will ring up $600,000 in sales for the first year and $1 million by year 3.

Dave Moreland, a buyer for Irvine, Calif.-based Beach Access, will open Revolve, a girls’ surf shop that will carry clothing by Volcom, Hurley, Paul Frank Industries and Split.

The 1,244-square-foot store will group clothing by vendor, and Revolve’s storefront will display a flashing billboard. Moreland, who remains confident in spite of a cooling retail climate, projects $600,000 in sales for the first year.

“During a recession retailers pull back and focus on three core vendors, upsetting their customers,” Moreland said. “I increase sales by bringing in more vendors to broaden price points.”
