Fashion Week Benefit to Assist New York Orphans

Los Angeles-based accessory showroom Ben-Amun’s Fabulous will present The Fierce And The Fabulous, a fashion event on Nov. 5 to benefit the Twin Towers Orphan Fund, which is a fund established to raise money for the education and welfare of the children who lost both parents or their sole parent in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

The event will feature designer lines including Treat Me Right by Grant Krajecki, Heatherette, SOB by Susan Bessire and Hand Maid by Michelle Franz. It will be held at the Key Club in West Hollywood, Calif., and according to Eva Di Shanni, the club donated its space for the entire evening.

While the benefit has garnered the support of Courvoisier, Kahlua and Sauza, more assistance is still needed, according to Di Shanni.

“We’re looking for additional sponsorship and donated items,” she said. “And we need people to distribute tickets—in their stores at their registers.”

The event will feature a lottery and drawings for door prizes, as well as a silent auction of the donated items.

“We got a lot of people to donate things for the silent auction,” said Di Shanni. “We have pending donations from Christian Dior, Roberto Kavali and Donatello Versace. We hadn’t called them—they called us.”

The event will also have a musical element, featuring hip-hop deejay Spinderella and a number of major acts who have not yet been able to definitely commit but have expressed a desire to attend, according to Di Shanni.

Counting Crows wants to do it, but they are not sure they will be here,” said Di Shanni. “We might be able to get an unplugged set from them. There are other acts we’ve spoken to, but we don’t want to say until they have confirmed.”

The Fierce And The Fabulous will be held from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., and according to Di Shanni, “100 percent of all money raised by door admission, the silent auction and unused corporate sponsorship will go to the Twin Towers Orphan Fund.”

Ben-Amun’s Fabulous is the corporate rep for Ben-Amun’s jewelry designs. The California Mart showroom carries other designers as well, including New York-based men’s and women’s apparel line Heatherette and Los Angeles-based handbag line Handmaid by Michelle Franz. (Handmaid items will be featured in Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion show on Nov. 1.)
