The U.S. trucking industry is suffering, with volume dropping from about 148 tons in 2000 to about 139 in 2001, according to the American Trucking Association. A brief uptick in trucking following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks seems to have dropped off in October, according to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal.
