L.A. in N.Y.: BCBG Max Azria

Celebrities, editors and retailers gathered under the tent at Bryant Park to catch a glimpse of BCBG Max Azria’s latest sportswear and couture offerings for Spring/Summer 2002. The Los Angeles-based designer’s collection was inspired by the isle of St. Tropez and features a palette of neutral colors, including shell, toffee and carob. Azria chose lightweight chiffons, jerseys, suedes and dip-dyed leather for his collection. The designer paired sleek, mid-calf high-heeled boots with wispy, asymmetrical-cut dresses and slim-cut suitings. Tassel belts, wraps, coats and bags added a touch of panache to this season’s fashion lineup. Actresses Jennifer Tilly and Jennifer Beals paid close attention to the designer’s beaded wrap dresses and pinstriped suits. “I thought it was exquisite and really, really beautiful,” Beals said of Azria’s collection. “I liked the draping blouses, and I thought the white suit and the jean coat were terrific.” —Claudia Figueroa
