L.A. Fashion Week Fall '02: Make Fashion Not War

It wasn’t a permanent cure for all of the world’s ills, but “Make Fashion Not War,” a fashion show held April 16 at designer John Q’s loft studio in Los Angeles’ artist district, was definitely a temporary solution of sorts.

The show, which drew about 100 people, featured several lines in addition to the host designer’s own, including those of fellow clothing designers Fahmina Khundkar and Shauna Leenher.

John Q’s sleeveless shirts with built-in tie and boxy leather utility pants were urban styles with an edge. Khundkar’s deconstructed leather collection was a little unpolished, but nevertheless, pure animal magnetism. Leenher’s Suo Motu collection featured A-line skirts paired with corduroy tops and denim Velcro skirts with backless tops. She matched some of the outfits with crafty, yet edgy, accessories designed by Arianna Sabra for Chimai. —Claudia Figueroa
