Hang Ten Gold

San Diego-based Hang Ten USA, a 40-year-old California lifestyle brand, plans to launch the Spring 2003 line of Hang Ten Gold, a vintage reproduction collection for young men, at MAGIC International Aug. 26–29 in Las Vegas.

Hang Ten Gold was created to satisfy a growing demand for the company’s original pieces, which have been selling for more than $50 at stores including American Rag, Indigo Way and Flashback and on specialty e-commerce Web sites.

“Our customers want authentic, original fashion, and that’s what the Hang Ten line is all about,” said Paul Epner, president of Hang Ten. “The Gold label is not a line influenced by the world’s original lifestyle collection. It is the original collection.”

The design of the new collection is pursued with attention to vintage specs, including the original engineered stripes, yarn dyeing and wovens. The packaging and embellishments are remade originals, including the vintage loop label, hangtag, vintage-styled twofeet embroidery, side tab and buttons.

Hang Ten Gold will be solely targeted to better specialty retailers, boutiques, vintage shops and surf shops. Retail price points range from $42 to $70.

Hang Ten USA will continue to offer its collection of sportswear, denim, structured bottoms and footwear for young men and women, called Blue Label.

The initial offering of Hang Ten Gold will be eight to 12 items over three releases in January, March and May of 2003. A line of vintage-remade denim bottoms is being developed for the third release of the collection. Hang Ten’s booth number at MAGIC is ST30468. For more information, call (858) 391-3380. —Darryl James
