Mille Nico Takes Manhattan

Los Angeles-based Mille Nico debuted its Fall/Holiday 2002 collection last month at Pulchritudinous, a fashion show benefiting the Lesbian and Gay Immigration Rights Task Force (LGIRTF) held at SPA in New York.

Designer Nico Morrison, who previously designed sweater collections for Earl Jean, Bebe, Theory and BCBG Max Azria before launching her own contemporary collection two years ago, created a very modern yet fanciful collection with hand-knit sweaters and hand-finished trims. A mod cable-knit sweater with Art Deco pattern, cinnamon-colored contrast-wool cardigan with exaggerated collar and oversized buttons, and bark-colored “match stick” sweater with embroidered details worn with Ecru silk pants were just a few looks the designer chose for the runway. Morrison said the eclectic collection was inspired by Peruvian tapestry and Victorian quilts.

The show was rounded out by avant-garde designers Carasan Designs and Edrie Woo and was followed by a tango performance and musical entertainment by Raviv. —Claudia Figueroa
