Juicy Cashmere a Hit at Pickett Fences

Shoppers can’t seem to wait for the Fall season as they scoop up Juicy cashmere warm-up suits at Pickett Fences on Larchmont Boulevard in Los Angeles, a street filled with cafes and independent retailers. The suits’ nearly $400 price tag isn’t a deterrent for customers, who are mixing and matching the black, ultra-soft knit ensembles— featuring zipup hoodies and drawstring waists—with colorful cashmere sweaters in rust, red and khaki.

“They feel comfortable on and are very flattering,” said store owner Joane Henneberger Pickett.

A year after moving up the street to a bigger location, Pickett said her present 2,200- square-foot unit is a success, catering to the needs of the local affluent community.

“With the Grove [shopping mall at Farmers Market] opening, more and more people are going there to shop, so it’s good that we’ve established ourselves on this high-traffic side of the street,” said Pickett, who combined the wares of Pickett Fences and her other store, Petticoats, into a single location. “We’re paying triple the rent but it’s all worked out.”

The mini clothing and gift emporium resembles a comfortable home with clothing from Seven, Blue Cult, Theory, Sage and Ashley O’Rourke displayed on antique tables, hutches and racks. Among the quotable magnets, disco balls and glow-in-the-dark computer goddesses, Pickett Fences also sells books, candles, notecards, purses and lingerie by Cosabella. —Nola Sarkisian-Miller
