Owens Recognized by CFDA

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) presented Los Angeles-based designer Rick Owens with the Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent during the organization’s 50th annual fashion awards ceremony, held at the New York Public Library on June 3.

Owens’ namesake collection and signature look have been no secret for some time to fashion-forward women in Hollywood, as the label has attracted somewhat of a cultlike following. But the designer has recently been gaining more attention in New York, especially after his runway debut for Fall 2002 during New York’s last fashion week. The designer was originally slated to show in New York for Spring 2002 but canceled his show after the events of Sept. 11. —Joselle Yokogawa
