Trucking Tribulations

Trucking companies are struggling with a 5 percent cut in transportation rates passed along by shippers who are grappling with their own profits, according to a recent story in the Los Angeles Business Journal. Current law allows offshore ocean carriers to set transportation rates with importers. Those rates include ground transportation rates. The California Trucking Association (CTA) is considering filing a complaint with the state attorney general to prevent ocean transporters from working together to set truckers’ rates. California has seen an increase in bankruptcies among trucking companies over the past two years, according to the CTA.
