Added Compensation

A recent study found that the state saw a 13.9 percent rise in workers’ compensation benefits to $8.9 billion in 2000 to cover rising health care costs. The study, conducted by the National Academy of Social Insurance, examined workers’ compensation benefits nationwide. The report, which also looked at wages nationwide, found that total wages in California rose 13.5 percent in 2000. The study’s authors said rising workers’ compensation claims may soon outpace wages.
