L.A. Fashion Week Spring '03: Petro Zillia
Against the concrete starkness of the Valuta Building in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 3, the Petro Zillia collection was a contrast of colors, shapes and textures for Spring 2003.
For this season’s line, designer Nony Tochterman looked to frontier American cultures for inspiration.
The long, flowing dress, adorned with layers and ruffles, was a strong theme, as was a Native American influence—Navaho yei-be-che patterns printed on sheer fabrics turned up on Old West–styled dresses, complete with voile petticoats underneath. Zillia’s fashion was all about fun, with candy striping, pink ribbons, Victorian lace trim, and glitter on hot pants and layered bell bottoms. The warm colors of the line—including soft blue, hazel brown, pink, blue and cream—were accessorized with wood-sole platform shoes sporting colorful straps, designed by Steve Madden. —Darryl James
