L.A. Fashion Week Spring '03: Ya-Ya

About 200 fashion editors and fans of fashion gathered on the second floor of the Cooper Building on Nov. 4 to check out the Spring 2003 show by upand- coming label Ya-Ya. The show demonstrated what designer Yael Alaflo does best: create technical designs that draw influence from New York’s and London’s fashion runways. A black silk hoodie was paired with tulle-trimmed cargo pants. A chiffon-trimmed tank top was shown with canvas carpenter pants. And a princess-sleeve jacket was worn with a mesh-sleeve top and paired with a pencil skirt and suspenders. Alaflo, who showed a portion of her collection the night before at the Gen Art fashion show, says she still feels like the nerd who won best exhibit at her high school science fair. —Claudia Figueroa
