Femme Show Adds L.A. Pavilion

The New York-based Femme show, part of the MAGIC International trade show group, will add the L.A. Designers Pavilion at the next run of the show, set for Jan. 5–7, 2003 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.

“The buyers think that L.A. designers are very important and we’ve made a commitment to create a new venue to highlight L.A. design,” said Marc Beckman, director of marketing for Femme.

The new pavilion will initially feature 25 to 35 California labels, including both brands that currently exhibit at Femme and brands that do not. Designers will be invited to submit their collections for consideration and the Femme team will jury the collections before selecting which lines will exhibit in the new pavilion, Beckman said.

The Femme team has already begun to research the California market and Femme executives plan to attend Los Angeles Fashion Week, set for Nov. 1–5, Beckman said.

“L.A. has some fantastic resources,” he added.

The new pavilion will not only give buyers a central location to preview and order Los Angeles lines, the pavilion will also give Los Angeles designers the opportunity to show their lines to Femme’s international retailer base.

“It’s the perfect environment for L.A. designers to meet with buyers from all over the world in New York,” he said.

Femme, now going into its second year, hosts three shows each year. The show drew 11,400 retailers at the September show.
