Sky Lands on Robertson Blvd.

Like other designers eager to retain their own merchandising stamp, Peter and Jennifer Kaveh, the creative force behind Los Angeles-based contemporary label Sky, are branching out into retail with the opening of their Robertson Boulevard store.

Expected to open the first week of October, the 1,700- square-foot boutique will feature the label’s entire collection of dresses, tops, skirts, pants and shoes, said Peter Kaveh. Long-range plans also include the addition of handbags.

“We’re eager to showcase the line as how we see it,” he said. “It’s also a good testing ground for clothing ideas.”

Elegance is the byword for the store. Limestone floors, stainless steel racks suspended from the ceiling and 10-foothigh glass water walls are part of the interior set off by a domed ceiling reminiscent of the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

“We had considered painting a sky on it, but we thought we’d hate it after a while,” said Kaveh.

Low-rise denim, T-shirts, pieces with leather contrast details and the company’s signature wooden and metalheeled boots are among the items on sale this fall. Retail prices will range from $60 to $200 for tops, $100 to $300 for bottoms and dresses, and $250 to $600 for boots. With the help of such celebrity clients as Madonna, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz, Kaveh hopes to generate at least $1 million in sales in the store’s first year.

Situated between Anya Hindmarch and Shikiri, Sky joins a who’s who of boutique retailers on Robertson including Agnes b., Lisa Kline, Horn, A. Mason, Curve and Ghost.

On the flip side, Sky plans to lose at least one of its 60 wholesale customers, which include Neiman Marcus, Fred Segal Santa Monica, Scoop in New York and Bergdorf Goodman.

“[Lisa Kline]’s one casualty—she was a very good customer,” said Kaveh, noting the store’s penchant for area exclusives.
